Boyd shares what he understands as Rangers ‘on verge of new manager announcement’

Rangers are closing on a new manager.

The Gers have been searching for a replacement for interim boss Barry Ferguson who departed at the end of the season.

Steven Gerrard and Davide Ancelotti are the leading candidates to take the vacancy, with the Italian reportedly the frontrunner.

Rangers told to hurry up with manager search

The Ibrox outfit have had plenty of time to appoint the new man, especially as Ferguson was only in interim charge.

Former Light Blues star Kris Boyd has urged the Govan club to hurry up as their preparations for the new season are set to begin soon.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun (28 May), he said: “There was an assumption the club were on the verge of an announcement when they let Barry Ferguson go.

“But time has marched on and they still don’t appear to be close to parading anyone anytime soon.

“Supporters can only hope they’re whittling it down to a shortlist, with more discussions planned for this week.

“CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell better get a move on, though, Rangers are back for pre-season next month ahead of Champions League qualifiers just eight weeks from now which are absolutely huge for the club.

“I understand negotiations can take time but Philippe Clement was sacked in February, so the club has known for three months they had to get a replacement.”

49ers need to quicken up with Rangers appointment

The 49ers have a huge to-do list when they take the reins at Auchenhowie, the most pressing of which is the new manager.

The Gers endured a miserable campaign last time out and their next appointment must be the right man, otherwise, it will only set the club back further in their bid to catch Celtic.

Ancelotti’s path so far.

Ancelotti seems to have finally made up his mind that he wants to start his managerial career after rumours that he would join his father, Carlo, with the Brazil set up failed to materialise.

If he is the next man in he dugout, it would be a gamble but his connections with Real Madrid could lead to moves for the likes of Ferland Mendy and David Alaba, which would be very exciting.

He would also bring an exciting new tactical blueprint after working with one of the greatest coaches in world football for several years, a five-time Champions League winner.

The appointment needs to be sorted soon, there is little time to waste, with the transfer window coming up and the Gers squad needing a significant overhaul and interest in the likes of Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande from south of the border.

It is a pivotal summer for the Bears and they need their man to be in place in the coming weeks, otherwise, there is a chance that they could be left behind again next season.
