Boyd backs Rohl hire at Rangers after what he’s heard at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl wouldn’t be a bad option as Rangers continue their search for a new manager.

Andrew Cavenagh is personally speaking with Ibrox managerial candidates to decide who’s best suited to lead the Gers next season.

Davide Ancelotti, Steven Gerrard and Rohl are some of the options the Light Blues have looked at after Barry Ferguson’s departure.

While the Glaswegian outfit have several options on the table, the German manager’s appointment has been given backing after what’s been heard.

Boyd wouldn’t mind seeing the 36-year-old head coach at Ibrox, but the fee to get him from the English Championship outfit may be a stumbling block for the Bears.

The former Light Blues forward wrote in The Scottish Sun (27 May): “Rohl is a name that’s been mentioned, and I wouldn’t be against him. The biggest stumbling block appears to be the amount of money it would take to get him from Sheffield Wednesday.

“But having talked to people down there, I see him as a top manager.”

Ibrox faithful frustrated with new manager wait after Ferguson exit

Ferguson seemingly wanted to stay at Ibrox, but the Gers were quick to let him go after the final game of the Scottish Premiership.

Fans expected the Light Blues to have a candidate in mind already, but it has taken considerable time for them to decide on the next head coach.

The Bears’ hierarchy have had a lot of time since sacking Philippe Clement to narrow down a list of potential candidates.

Ancelotti seems to be the frontrunner at Rangers for now, but supporters aren’t too convinced about him.

The Italian national has no experience as a first-team head coach and began his coaching career as a fitness coach during Carlo Ancelotti’s first stint at Real Madrid, before becoming an assistant manager under his father.

Rohl was an assistant with the German national team under Hansi Flick, but has since demonstrated his credentials with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 36-year-old head coach helped the English Championship outfit avoid relegation last season and helped them climb further up the table this time around.

With the managerial saga at Ibrox dragging on, fans will want to see someone come in as soon as possible.
