Rangers ready ‘big-name appointment’ after new manager statement – Exclusive

Rangers and the 49ers Enterprises finally look set to be closing in on their new manager.

Despite the American takeover not yet being complete at Ibrox, things have been moving quickly with an appointment now expected before the end of this week.

Steven Gerrard and Davide Ancelotti remain firmly in the running to take over, with a big-name manager expected to kickstart the new era in Govan.

49ers ready new Rangers manager appointment

The 49ers have experience of starting their takeover with a new manager hire, bringing in Championship promotion specialist Daniel Farke at Leeds, who has just completed that task.

Dan Plumley insists that it is highly likely that they will go down a similar route at Ibrox, as they look to return to the top of Scottish football.

The football finance expert admits that Rangers won’t be able to open a blank chequebook immediately, but they can make a splash with their new manager.

“We know the success that Gerrard had previously at Rangers, and there are other big names that will go into the mix,” Plumley exclusively told Ibrox News.

“I just think it goes back to the statement of intent that you’re looking for all the way through it, and we’ve said before, they won’t be able to open a blank chequebook on the playing side, manager or anything going into it.

It’s not that simple, given the financial climate in Scottish football, however, they need a statement here to hit the ground running and firmly look at what the ambitions and aspirations are for that club moving forward.

Of course, the immediate concern is how this season has gone and getting back to the top of the pile in that league as soon as possible, so I think everything in that stacks up to a big manager, but I would think it is highly likely we see a very well-known name go into that space.”

Rangers rebuild needed from top to bottom

Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh know that it isn’t just a takeover and a new manager, but a complete new era needed at Ibrox.

Appointing someone like Gerrard or Ancelotti is only the first step, with new transfers, boardroom and attitude needed to dismantle Celtic again.

That must happen quickly, too.
