Gretar Steinsson jets to Madrid for showdown Rangers talks with Ancelotti
Gretar Steinsson is playing a significant role as Rangers have Davide Ancelotti on their radar to become the next permanent manager.
The Gers sacked Philippe Clement midway through the season and replaced him with Barry Ferguson temporarily, with the ex-midfielder taking charge of his final fixture against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on 17 May, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Ancelotti has been heavily linked to the Ibrox hot seat, and the Italian coach has now left his role as assistant manager at Real Madrid.
With the campaign effectively coming to a close for the Light Blues, the managerial saga is expected to have a conclusion soon.

Ancelotti interview held in Madrid by Steinsson for Rangers
Steinsson has been influential during the interview stages to appoint Ancelotti, according to Keith Jackson.
The Scottish journalist revealed in the Record (27 May) that the former Iceland international is thought to have travelled to Madrid in order to vet the 35-year-old coach’s credentials.

It’s been claimed that the Leeds United technical director has been influential in talks that have been held to appoint a new head coach at Ibrox.
With the Italian coach lacking experience as a first-team manager, it makes sense for Steinsson to be seemingly extremely cautious.

Ibrox faithful won’t like Ancelotti appointment
The Ibrox faithful won’t be impressed with Ancelotti’s lack of experience, and it’ll arguably be a sticking point for them.
Brendan Rodgers has dominated the Scottish Premiership since returning to Celtic, and the Gers fans will want to see their team appoint a manager capable of competing with the Northern Irishman.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises seem to have different ideas ahead of their takeover of the Light Blues, and it remains to be seen what the future holds.
Rangers supporters will hope the US consortium can bring success back to G51, as the 49ers have done during their time at Leeds.
The Americans undoubtedly have a lot of experience in English football, and hopefully, it can translate in Scotland.
With the Ibrox faithful growing weary with how long it’s taking to complete the takeover and appoint a new manager at the Bears, the hierarchy must give them something to look forward to.
If Ancelotti is the chosen one at the Glaswegian outfit, it can either be a massive masterstroke or a complete flop.
