Rangers to appoint new manager in next six days

Rangers are still yet to decide who will become their next permanent manager, but there will be movement imminently.

Barry Ferguson has already left Ibrox after his interim spell, with the 49ers Enterprises keen to put their stamp on the Govan club with a takeover imminent.

Rangers have had a dismal season and are in need of a major rebuild from top to bottom, making it a massive role for whoever is next in charge.

Several options have been linked, including Steven Gerrard and Davide Ancelotti, and a decision will now be made in the coming days.

Chris Jack reveals Rangers manager deadline

Rangers’ season was over after their Europa League exit at the hands of Athletic Bilbao, but there has been slow progress over their next managerial appointment.

However, with all the major league campaigns now drawing to a close, Rangers need to secure their next manager ahead of a monumental summer transfer window.

Chris Jack has now revealed that he expects the new manager to be appointed by the end of this week, before the start of June.

“By the end of this week, I expect Rangers to have a manager,” he told the Rangers Review Podcast (26 May).

“On Ancelotti, there will be more discussions this week. He is keen on this job, he likes the project, he is enthused by the chance to become a manager in his own right, and he believes that Rangers is the right club for him.

“The next couple of days will determine if he is the man for Rangers or not.”

Rangers need to move quickly once manager confirmed

This could be one of the most important summer transfer windows in Rangers’ recent history, and there is no time to waste for the Bears as they aim to conduct their rebuild.

Whoever comes in as manager, be it Ancelotti, Gerrard or anyone else, will need backing this summer in order to build a better playing squad.

A lot of players will need to leave, and they need strengthening in nearly every area of the squad. Once the appointment is confirmed, Rangers will have to immediately turn their attention to the transfer market.

Although Kevin Thelwell will have a huge influence over transfers, the new manager will also have a say, and Ancelotti could potentially bring some youth talents over from Real Madrid if he does join.

Rangers will need to have their manager in place and most of their transfer business done before July to give themselves the best possible chance of success next season, and the delays in the process of appointing a manager have not helped.
