Ferguson gives seal of approval for Rangers to sign in-form striker – Exclusive

Cyriel Dessers proved a number of doubters wrong in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, but there is no doubt Rangers could do with more firepower up top.

The Nigerian finished the Scottish Premiership season with 18 goals to his name, making him the division’s top scorer.

Indeed, the number of goals Dessers notched for Rangers this season caught some by surprise, with Celtic’s raved-about forward Daizen Maeda finishing with 16.

However, Dessers continues to divide opinion and there is an understanding that another prolific attacker is required to share the workload, particularly now Vaclav Cerny has returned to Wolfsburg.

Rumours surrounding certain players Rangers could sign is already in overdrive, including the name of an unknown striker abroad.

Rangers ready to trigger Evagoras Charalampous release clause

Reports earlier this month suggested that Cypriot striker Evagoras Charalampous is wanted by Rangers.

It is claimed that the Scottish Premiership side are deciding whether to trigger Charalampous’ release clause, which is set at just £42,000.

Charalampous is said to have been watched by the Gers in Anorthosis Famagusta’s past three matches, across which he has scored four goals.

That strike rate will excite Rangers fans, and pundit Derek Ferguson likes the sounds of this approach for a talented and hungry player.

“Rangers need more strikers. Dessers had great stats this season, but I’ve seen him regularly…” Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News.

Barry [Ferguson] was defensive of Dessers and talked him up. I’d like to see him stay, but I’d also like to see others join him – we need three or four here.

There’ll be people behind the scenes looking at strikers across Europe and the more quality the better. We need this type of signing, definitely.”

Rangers can repeat Hamza Igamane transfer trick

Charalampous is not a name many – if any – Rangers fan will be familiar with, but that was also the case when bringing in Hamza Igamane last summer.

Igamane enjoyed a successful first season at Ibrox, leading to suggestions he could depart Rangers this summer.

Signing relatively unheralded players further afield with potential to grow seems a smart tactic for the Gers to pursue going forward.
