Steven Gerrard clears red tape to become new Rangers manager

Rangers are seemingly close to appointing their next permanent manager, and it could be a familiar face in the dugout.

The Gers have endured a dismal season which ended trophyless, and it is now four years since they last won the Scottish Premiership title.

Rangers last won the league in 2021, and they did it in style as they went unbeaten over the course of the season.

Steven Gerrard was in charge for this remarkable triumph, and he has now been cleared to return to Ibrox to lead Rangers into a new era.

Gerrard cleared of tax issues ahead of Rangers return

Gerrard is now the frontrunner to take the vacant Rangers job to replace Barry Ferguson, and this will be his first role since leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq in January.

There were worries that Gerrard would face tax complications given his exit from Saudi Arabia, where he was on a salary of around £15 million per year.

However, the Daily Mail (21 May) have now revealed that Gerrard is set for more talks over a return to Rangers, and that he will not face any red tape issues.

Rangers want to make an appointment by the end of the week, and have also spoken to Davide Ancelotti, but Gerrard is now thought to be winning the race.

There will be a mixed reaction across Scotland as Gerrard returns, but Rangers fans will have every reason to be excited.

Gerrard can bring success back to Rangers

Gerrard has struggled in every managerial role he has been in since leaving Rangers in 2021, but it was a different story at Ibrox.

The former Liverpool captain took over after a disastrous year under Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty, and helped transform the club.

Gerrard brought in several young talents from Liverpool, including Ryan Kent, who went on to be a huge success, and had Rangers playing an attacking style which ended up steamrolling through the Scottish Premiership.

With Rangers again in need of another rebuild, Gerrard now has the chance to replicate his previous success, and revive his own managerial career in Glasgow.
