Rangers ready new triple appointment as Jim White shares manager latest live on air

Rangers fans are impatiently waiting to find out who their new manager is going to be at Ibrox.

Barry Ferguson’s departure as interim manager following the conclusion of the season has left the hot seat empty for now.

The 49ers Enterprises aren’t expected to complete their takeover at Ibrox until the middle of June, leaving uncertainty over the current situation.

However, it has been reported that a managerial appointment, approved by the incoming investors, is set to be announced by the end of the week, giving clarity to all.

White shares Rangers managerial update

Rangers have been linked to several managers since the search for a new manager started.

Russell Martin is one of the names that has been on the list, with the former Southampton boss having turned down other jobs in recent weeks.

Davide Ancelotti has also been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox, upon his departure from Real Madrid this summer, and it has been reported that he is still largely interested in a move to Glasgow.

Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has also emerged as a serious candidate of late and seems to be the favourite as it stands.

According to White, that is certainly the case as he said live on talkSPORT (21 May): “Now we understand this morning here at talkSPORT that behind the scenes, the managerial situation is moving at a pace.

“The interim manager, Barry Ferguson, will be leaving with thanks for what he’s done at the football club, but back to the football club, it’s understood will come Steven Gerrard, former manager at the club, of course, the man who won them the Scottish Premier League title.

“And alongside Steven Gerrard, former Rangers player, huge popular figure, Steven Davis and alongside the two of them, as an assistant to Gerrard and Davis, Jordan Henderson. Liverpool, of course, from the past and more recently Ajax, but he would also be an assistant in their as well.”

Gerrard bigger risk as any for the 49ers

The pressure is on the 49ers to make a call at Ibrox, with some departures from Glasgow already having been announced now that the season has ended.

Whoever the new boss is will have a big job on their hands, needing the maximum time to put plans in place to take Rangers forward.

Gerrard has been labelled as an easy choice for Rangers, given he has already achieved greatness with the Light Blues and knows the set-up well.

However, some supporters will have been hoping for more ambition too, given they are meant to be bigger under the new ownership.

Therefore, if this is the decision that is made, the 49ers will have to hope that success does return to Ibrox, otherwise, they could quickly come under criticism for a lack of ambition from the get-go.
