Rangers new manager: Gennaro Gattuso claim leaves studio visibly stunned
Rangers are edging closer to appointing their next permanent manager, but none of the candidates have produced unanimous excitement.
Steven Gerrard is said to be the frontrunner for the role, while Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin are among the names linked.
Rangers need a complete rebuild this summer, and some believe that a manager with experience and authority should take charge at Ibrox.
One available coach who is certainly aware of the pressures of the Rangers’ job is Gennaro Gattuso, but this suggestion has already delivered a shock.

Scott Allan reacts as Rangers fan calls for Gattuso appointment
Some Rangers fans have expressed their disappointment at links with Gerrard, despite the Englishman leading them to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.
One fan has now shared on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard that, despite Gerrard’s previous success, he would like to see Gattuso come in as the next manager.
“Gerrard stopped Celtic winning 10 in a row, and I’m thankful for it,” he stated.

“I would take Gattuso. He’s achieved everything there is to achieve in football. The wealth and knowledge he’s got, and the way he played as a player, he could get people to run through a brick wall for him.”
Former Celtic midfielder Scott Allan could not believe the suggestion, as he held his hands to his head, and he pointed out that Gerrard does have the experience to succeed.
He responded: “Gerrard has got it over the line for Rangers. He’s won that domestic title that they waited years for. He stopped ten in a row.”
Gattuso would be too big a risk for Rangers
Gattuso was a legendary player and does have experience in management at the top level, but he would be a huge risk, and is unlikely to be considered by 49ers Enterprises.
The potential new owners are seemingly keen on building a long-term project at the Govan club, which is the antithesis of Gattuso’s managerial career so far.
The Italian is currently managing Hadjuk Split in Croatia, but has rarely lasted more than a year in recent jobs.
Gattuso has managed Milan, Napoli, Valencia and Marseille since 2017, but did not succeed in any of these roles, and ultimately left in chaotic circumstances and a mid-season exit would be disastrous for Rangers if he does join.
