James Tavernier told to leave Rangers after what fans have done to him
Rangers have announced the departure of several players at Ibrox already.
There is uncertainty in Glasgow currently, with supporters waiting for the 49ers to make a managerial appointment to replace Barry Ferguson.
Once a new boss is in place and the takeover has gone through, there is expected to be plenty more changes at Ibrox ahead of the new campaign.
Another player who could leave is captain James Tavernier, who has been told that it may be best for him to find another club.

Rangers fans criticised for treatment of Tavernier
It has not been a good season to be a Rangers fan, with standards on the pitch well below the expected levels.
The performances of the Light Blues allowed Celtic to run away with the Scottish Premiership title yet again, leading to plenty of disappointment with the current squad.
Tavernier has continuously been at the forefront this term, with the captain having made 33 league appearances across the campaign.
Season | Appearances |
2024/25 | 33 |
2023/24 | 38 |
2022/23 | 38 |
This summer leaves some questions hanging over the captain’s future again, as he enters the final year of his contract in Govan.
Speaking on the Keeping the Ball on the Ground podcast, former teammate Josh Windass sent a message to Tavernier, saying: “He’s so robust, he’s out there every week.
“He’s obviously going to come under more criticism because he plays a lot more than everyone else as well. You can’t be the best player in every game.”
When posed the question that he’s surely had enough at Ibrox, Windass was quick to reply: “I’ve thought that a couple of times. I was thinking, why are you still doing it? Go play for someone who respects you.
“He gets hammered for no reason. They lose a game and it’s his fault.”
Tavernier to stay put with Rangers
Rangers supporters have probably been frustrated with most players in their side this season, given how much they’ve underperformed.
What’s been especially frustrating is the lack of effort on too many occasions where the squad have looked like they can’t be bothered to turn up.
As Windass points out, with the captain being at the forefront and playing so regularly, he is bound to come under criticism.
However, going into his final season at Ibrox, it does feel more likely that he will see it out and stay with the Light Blues.
What’s more, with Steven Gerrard being linked with a return to Ibrox this summer, he could well want to work with his old boss for another season, with the manager potentially feeling the same.
If the 49ers takeover does go as planned, supporters could well be singing Tavernier’s praises a lot more next season.
