Exclusive: 49ers ‘sign off’ on new Rangers manager appointment

Rangers are set for a transformational month at Ibrox, with a huge summer ahead.

The 49ers Enterprises may not complete its takeover until June, but a new manager is expected to be appointed in Govan by the end of this week.

Steven Gerrard is the current frontrunner, but other names are on the list, as Kevin Thelwell and Gretar Steinsson prepare for final crunch talks.

49ers ready massive Rangers paperwork

Despite not officially being in power, the 49ers and Steinsson, in particular, are already running things around Ibrox and Auchenhowie, it seems.

Dan Plumley has insisted that the Americans are “highly likely” to sign off on any major developments, such as the new manager, in the coming days.

The football finance expert says Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe will be pulling the strings on an interim basis until the takeover is officially signed off.

“I would say that’s highly likely given what we’ve seen,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“If that takeover, from what we’re led to believe, goes through, it’s highly likely that the 49ers would be wanting to sign off on these things while that is getting sorted out.

You’re not going to want to run that any other way, so I would highly expect that they’re pulling the strings behind the scenes and signing off on these decisions in the interim until the takeover goes through.”

49ers and Marathe busy ahead of Rangers takeover

With the San Francisco 49ers selling stakes which value them at over £6billion, and Leeds preparing for life in the Premier League, Marathe is busy.

The American has lifted the Championship title, celebrated with a bus tour and announced stadium expansion plans at Leeds, all while pushing to finalise a Rangers takeover.

Gerrard knows what it takes to succeed at Rangers, and that big-name appointment is something that will excite Marathe, Cavenagh and the 49ers.

This one could be finalised and signed off very shortly.
