Rangers ‘shame’ emerges as Ianis Hagi annoucement made at Ibrox
Rangers have announced Ianis Hagi will leave Ibrox once his contract expires after spending five years on their books.
The Romania international’s injuries affected his spell at the Gers, leading to his exclusion from the first team at the start of the season.
Hagi showed immense fortitude at Ibrox to get back into Philippe Clement’s plans and proved to be an influential spell during the Light Blues’ best spell in the current campaign.
After Patrick Stewart appointed Barry Ferguson as interim manager, the 26-year-old once again dropped down the pecking order. Fitness issues meant the midfielder wasn’t seen much at the Glaswegian outfit during the season’s final weeks.

Hagi exit unfortunately coincided with injury at Rangers
It’s a shame that Hagi’s exit from the Gers coincided with his injury, Joshua Barrie says.
The Scottish journalist is disappointed that the Romanian playmaker couldn’t feature for the Light Blues after the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on 4 May.
Appearances | Goals | Assists |
31 | 4 | 7 |
Barrie also lamented Leon Balogun’s stint ending in a similar fashion, with the Glaswegian outfit announcing the departures of Tom Lawrence, Vaclav Cerny, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Rafael Fernandes as well.
The journalist wrote on X (20 May): “A shame that Hagi and Balogun’s time both ended in injury, especially the former who was last seen 4 May.
“Kasanwirjo’s spell could’ve been different if not for injury. Cerny… where would Rangers have been without his 27 goal contributions? Proved an excellent signing.”

Ibrox board should’ve extended Hagi contract
Hagi deserved a new contract at Ibrox after his performances in recent months, helping the Gers get back to an acceptable standard.
After a few years of struggle, the 26-year-old star did well to get back into contention at the Light Blues.
With Nedim Bajrami struggling under Clement, the Romanian’s resurgence at the Glaswegian outfit was key in quickly turning the tide.
Rangers fans were expecting a massive squad overhaul, but the departures of Hagi and Cerny, in particular, will be underwhelming.
The prospective new owners should’ve kept hold of the Gers’ best players, and the Wolfsburg loanee’s departure means they’ll now need to invest heavily in the upcoming transfer window.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises must build a competitive team next summer capable of knocking Celtic off their perch.
It wouldn’t make sense to hire a new manager without giving them the necessary tools to succeed at the Bears.
Hagi could’ve undoubtedly contributed more at the Glaswegian outfit, and now the recruitment department will be expected to sign an adequate replacement for him.
