Steven Gerrard set for ‘stunning Rangers manager appointment’ with final stage ready

Rangers could potentially have Steven Gerrard make a sensational return to Ibrox after Barry Ferguson ended his interim stint.

The former Scotland international took charge of his final game as the Gers’ head coach at Easter Road against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday (17 May).

Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell have Gerrard on their shortlist as they lead the search for a new manager at the Light Blues.

With the Bears now ready to prepare for next season, they’ve reached the final stages of appointing a new head coach.

Rangers identify Gerrard as preferred managerial candidate at Rangers

Gerrard has been identified as the preferred managerial candidate by the Glaswegian outfit, according to the Daily Mail.

The news outlet reports (19 May) that the Gers want to hire someone with experience as a first-team head coach after Real Madrid assistant manager Davide Ancelotti emerged as a contender at Ibrox.

It’s been claimed that the Liverpool icons could make a “stunning” return to the Light Blues once the US takeover is complete.

The former Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq coach was the last manager to lift the Scottish Premiership title at the Bears.

Ibrox faithful split on Gerrard return

Gerrard seems like the right person to stabilise Ibrox after a few disappointing managerial appointments at the Gers.

The 44-year-old former midfielder’s previous stint saw the Light Blues lift the league title after 10 years.

Celtic’s domination in the Scottish Premiership has re-emerged after the Liverpool icon left for Villa, and he might be the one to end Brendan Rodgers’ domination.

Rangers must compete with their Old Firm rivals immediately after Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises complete their takeover.

The Ibrox faithful don’t have the patience to wait for another project to be given time before tasting success.

While Gerrard has the pedigree of winning a title with the Gers, supporters still aren’t too fond of his previous stint due to the amount of money it took to succeed.

Michael Beale may be another reason fans don’t want to see the Liverpool icon return as the two have worked together in the ex-midfielder’s previous stints at the Light Blues, Villa and Al-Ettfaq.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the 44-year-old does return to take charge next season, as his record since leaving the Bears has been underwhelming.
