Rangers hit by ‘harsh reality’ despite takeover in new UEFA twist – Exclusive
Rangers have been in trouble with UEFA frequently in recent years, and that could continue on the pitch with new regulations coming into force.
With European qualification guaranteed basically every year at Ibrox, UEFA are working on guidelines to bring squad cost ratios down to 70 per cent of a club’s turnover.
Despite the impending takeover of Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises, Rangers have been warned they will not be able to spend big money immediately.

Rangers sent brand new takeover warning already
Dan Plumley has warned that big-name player sales may still be needed, despite the impending new American ownership at Ibrox.
The football finance expert insists that the 49ers won’t be able to open a blank chequebook, with new UEFA regulations needing to be looked at closely.
“It is the reality of the situation,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“Ultimately, there is loads of positivity around the takeover and what it may mean, and all of that is there for sure.
“There are some fantastic upsides of what this takeover may bring, and you look at Kevin Thelwell coming in, he’s ambitious, but it’s also not the case that you can just open up the blank chequebook.
“That’s not Scottish football, even for Rangers, and that league is so dependent on European qualification, they’re not spending huge amounts of money every year, it’s not that kind of league.
“You have to be mindful of that, and you have to look at where you are with the UEFA regulations and the new squad cost rule that is now in place, so loads of positivity still, but anyone thinking that it will be the takeover and a blank chequebook, that’s unrealistic at this stage.
“It’s got to be that incremental growth for the future, and how the club can look to put forward plans for the long term.”

Nicolas Raskin and Hamza Igamane to leave Rangers
Looking at the squad, the two players with immense resale value are Raskin and Igamane, and both could leave to allow the 49ers and whoever the new manager is to spend big.
Stats in all competitions (2024/25) | Nicolas Raskin |
Appearances | 48 |
Goals | 5 |
Assists | 11 |
Raskin has been sensational this season and wants to stay, but if £20million is offered, Rangers simply cannot turn that down if they want to spend big themselves.
Igamane could add to that, but the reality is, nobody appears to be safe at Ibrox, regardless of the takeover.
