Chris Sutton shares seven-word reaction to new Rangers manager update

Chris Sutton took to X on Sunday to speak about the managerial situation at Rangers with the season now concluded.

Gers ended the SPFL campaign with 75 points to their name, finishing in second place, 17 points behind Celtic.

Philippe Clement was sacked and the Ibrox outfit opted to go for an interim appointment rather than a permanent replacement.

Sutton reacts in as Barry Ferguson leaves post as manager

Gers announced on 18 May that Barry Ferguson will be leaving, as they thanked him for his time in charge.

He was understood to be keen on the job and was in the running to get it full time.

However, the decision makers opted against making him the next permanent manager.

Patrick Stewart confirmed that things are progressing with regard to the process of making a permanent appointment.

They aim to get that done soon ahead of the transfer window and the pre-season campaign.

Via X, Sutton wrote: “No more Bazball at Ibrox next season…”

Rangers make right call to not hire Ferguson

Rangers‘ decision not to appoint Ferguson as full-time manager was justified by his underwhelming interim performance and lack of proven managerial pedigree.

Despite his legendary status as a player, Ferguson’s interim stint yielded only six victories in 15 matches, with a mere two wins in the final nine, leaving Rangers 17 points behind Celtic in a trophyless season.

His managerial record at lower-tier clubs like Clyde, Kelty Hearts, and Alloa showed mixed results, raising doubts about his readiness for a high-pressure role.

He has been criticised for his tactical shortcomings and the regression of the team compared to predecessors.

With a takeover looming and the need for a strategic rebuild, Rangers wisely opted for a more experienced manager to restore competitiveness, avoiding a sentimental but risky appointment.

Gers should seek a tactically astute manager with proven success in competitive leagues, capable of implementing a dynamic, attacking style while maintaining defensive solidity.

Experience in managing high-pressure environments, developing young talent and navigating European competitions is crucial.

A track record of silverware and adaptability to modern football trends is also equally essential.
