Rangers Women calamity raises ‘huge questions’ for Old Firm clubs
Rangers Women’s campaign ended in misery on Sunday as they missed out on the SWPL1 title as well as a Champions League spot.
Jo Potter’s side went into Sunday knowing they had one task – win against Hibernian, and they would lift the title.
However, the hosts simply did not turn up at Ibrox, and Linzi Taylor netted the only goal of the game to ensure Hibs won 1-0.
Yet, the defeat not only cost Rangers the title, but it has also lost them a spot in the Champions League as they fell to third in the SWPL1.
Now, Scotland legend Gemma Fay has slammed the Glaswegian club, and now believes “huge questions” will be asked after their failure to qualify for Europe.

Rangers slammed for ‘failing to turn up to the big occasions’
Rangers Women have now failed to beat Hibs on every occasion in the SPWL1 this season.
While the Gers did beat the Edinburgh side 5-0 in the Sky Sports Cup, it was ultimately their record against the now-Scottish champions which has cost them the title.
At Ibrox, Rangers rarely threatened the Hibs and looked completely off the pace.
In comparison, the visitors were focused and managed the game with ease.
As a result, Fay has questioned the mentality of the squad, insisting that they “don’t turn up in big moments”.
She told BBC Radio Scotland (18 May): “You need to look at both of the Old Firm clubs; neither of them will be in Europe next year, and that poses huge questions.
“Where do we go from here, because Celtic have been so far off it. You can argue that they suffered because they got so far in the Champions League and they couldn’t cope; they have just fallen by the wayside.
“Rangers on the big moments and big occasions, they just haven’t turned up.”

Rangers need to prove themselves in the Scottish Cup
Fay’s view on Rangers, while damning, is true. The Gers simply did not turn up against Hibs in a game they had to win.
The implications of not getting into Europe could be massive, but it is exactly what they deserve after such a toothless performance.
However, Potter’s side have a chance to prove themselves next weekend when they face Glasgow City in the Scottish Cup final.
While not getting Europe and failing to win the SWPL1 is no doubt worrying, if they come away from the campaign with two domestic cups, it will soften the blow.
