Rangers to go against Nico Raskin’s wishes in major exit twist

Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin has been linked with an exit this summer after a stellar 2024-25 campaign.

The 24-year-old even made his first senior appearance for Belgium and has been one of the best players in Scotland.

He’s made 33 league appearances and, despite being a midfielder, has registered 10 assists as well for the Ibrox outfit.

Raskin likely to be sold by Gers despite recent comments

Gers are a regular player-trading club and ideally want to sell their assets at peak value.

However, that has not been the case in recent seasons, as a number of quality players have left on free transfers.

Rangers Review reported on 18 May that despite the 49ers Enterprises takeover on the cusp of being finalised, Gers are likely to sell Raskin.

This appears to be against his wishes and said that he has no plans to leave them this summer.

Raskin this season has been stellar.

He mentioned that he’s got two more years left on his deal and as long as he’s wanted by the hierarchy, he is happy to stay.

Raskin said: “Look, I’ve been enjoying myself this season and it’s not so often that you can enjoy yourself in a club.

“I’m really happy here. I’ve got two more seasons in my contract. So as long as the club wants me, I’ll be here and then we’ll see what happens.”

Rangers must consider retaining Raskin post takeover

Selling Raskin this summer, coinciding with the 49ers Enterprises takeover, could be a misstep for Rangers.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been a standout in the 2024-25 season, proving his value as a dynamic, creative force.

His desire to stay showcases a clear affinity for the club.

Offloading him now risks undermining the new owners’ vision, as Raskin’s youth, skill and leadership make him an ideal cornerstone for rebuilding.

Instead, the 49ers Enterprises group could anchor the squad around him, leveraging his playmaking to pursue SPFL titles and deeper Champions League runs.

His retention would signal ambition, boost fan morale, and align with Gers’ history of nurturing talent for success rather than cashing in prematurely.

Building around Raskin could elevate the club to new heights, capitalising on the takeover’s financial and strategic impetus
