Rangers exit-linked attacker sends message to Todd Cantwell after video clip

Todd Cantwell had a mixed spell at Rangers before securing a move to Blackburn Rovers.

The Englishman’s signing was seen as a coup when the Ibrox outfit secured his signature from Norwich in January 2023.

However, he failed to live up the expectations in the Scottish capital despite a promising start to life at Auchenhowie.

The 27-year-old was ultimately sold for £600,000 to the Ewood Park outfit in a move that Keith Jackson branded as “nonsense” for the Rangers hierarchy.

Matondo sends Cantwell message after Blackburn video

Cantwell notched 14 goals and 12 assists in 64 matches for the Scottish Premiership outfit before calling time on his time in Govan.

He has continued those exploits in the North West of England, scoring three goals and bagging three assists for the Rovers in his maiden Championship campaign with them.

The ex-Bournemouth man took to Instagram (17 May) to post a highlight reel from his stellar campaign for Valerian Ismael’s side and Rabbi Matondo responded.

The exit-linked Light Blues ace replied with a comment, saying: “Toddyyyy Cantsss unaaa, real ballaaaa.”

Rangers exit on the cards for Matondo

Just like his former teammate Cantwell, Matondo has struggled to make the required impact in Glasgow and looks very likely to leave in the summer.

The 49ers are looking to revolutionise the Rangers squad into one that can compete with Celtic at the top of the division and the former Manchester City academy product does not fit the bill.

The winger has just one year left on his contract with the Bears and it would the perfect time to cash in, with clubs interested in his services.

The Welsh ace has not lived up to the hype since making the £2.5million move to Govan from Schalke in 2022, notching just eight goals in 67 appearances in his two-and-a-half-year stay, which is a very underwhelming return for a player of his potential ability.

That is the problem, he has fulfilled that potential and as a result, the Gers are set to be out of pocket once again.

However, a deal makes sense for both parties at this point, the Light Blues should recoup whatever amount they can as he has no future with them.
