Scottish FA immediately react to Rangers controversy v Hibernian

Rangers face Hibernian in this season’s final fixture on Saturday, with the Scottish FA trying to clear up a controversy.

Easter Road hosts Barry Ferguson’s team on 17 May, in what could potentially be the interim manager’s final game in charge of the Gers.

Celtic have won their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, but the Light Blues still have pride to play for against David Gray’s side.

Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring, and the Glaswegian outfit thought they’d scored a second as the ball looked over the line, but VAR deemed it inconclusive, and meanwhile, the hosts equalised on the other end.

SFA find no conclusive evidence for Rangers goal v Hibernian

The SFA have found no conclusive evidence to show the ball went over the line for the Gers’ potential second goal.

BBC Sportsound reporter Cammy Bell revealed that the authorities cleared up the controversy by claiming they can’t be sure about whether the Light Blues extended their lead.

It could potentially have significant ramifications as Hibernian immediately found the back of the net, levelling the tie 1-1.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (17 May, 13:00), Bell said: “What we’re getting from the SFA is there’s no conclusive evidence to show that the ball is over the line.”

Ferguson playing for his future against Hibernian

Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell, who are leading the search for a new permanent head coach, are considering Ferguson’s continuity at Ibrox.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are already working on appointing a new manager before completing their much-anticipated takeover of the Gers.

The US consortium don’t have much time to lose, as there isn’t much time left before pre-season comes around at the start of July.

Rangers have been in a state of flux since news broke that the Americans were interested in acquiring controlling shares at Ibrox.

Ferguson’s Gers record before the Hibernian fixture.

Ferguson hasn’t had the best of domestic records since taking over from Philippe Clement, only winning his first home game against Aberdeen on 11 May.

The ex-midfielder will want to end the campaign on a positive note and give the prospective new owners something to think about, having also beaten Brendan Rodgers and Jose Mourinho.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the ex-midfielder get a short-term contract at the Bears just to maintain some stability as Cavenagh and the 49ers focus on other things at Ibrox.

The decision to deny the Glaswegian outfit a goal before they conceded could affect Ferguson’s chances.
