Davide Ancelotti bombshell: Rangers have answer as manager hunt twist emerges

Davide Ancelotti has made a final decision regarding his future after positive discussions with Rangers.

With the 2024-25 season coming to an end on Saturday (17 May), the Light Blues have turned their attention towards appointing a replacement for Barry Ferguson.

Ancelotti has emerged as a serious candidate in recent days, with the Italian said to have been identified as a key target by incoming owners Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe.

With Rangers prepared to move forward with their plans to hire a new manager even before the takeover is finalised, things appear to have been moving quickly on that front.

Ancelotti rejects Rangers

Chris Jack reported on Thursday (14 May) that Ancelotti has held positive discussions with Rangers ahead of a potential move to Ibrox.

The Rangers Review journalist revealed that the 35-year-old is poised to make a decision regarding his future by the end of May.

He added that the former Everton assistant manager would not wait for offers from other clubs if he deems Rangers as the right opportunity for him.

However, it appears Ancelotti has already made a final decision regarding his future, and Rangers will not like it.

The young tactician has made up his mind to put his aspirations to become a head coach on hold to join his father, Carlo Ancelotti, in the Brazil national team, according to Alberto Pereiro.

The Onda Cero journalist reported via his personal X handle on Friday (16 May) that he will be with Brazil at least until the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, Carlo has decided to move to Brazil permanently, dismissing plans to stay in London and Madrid.

Ibrox outfit to turn elsewhere

This will come as a huge disappointment for Rangers, as they appeared to have zeroed in on the Italian as their preferred candidate under the 49ers.

However, they will now be forced to look elsewhere for a permanent replacement for Philippe Clement, whom they sacked in February.

The Gers have been linked with numerous managers, including Steven Gerrard, who has been linked with a sensational return to Ibrox this summer.
