Wayne Rooney’s name emerges amid ‘ridiculous’ Rangers new manager development
Rangers are yet to confirm who will be their manager going into the 2025/26 campaign, which continues to insight speculation.
With the 49ers’ takeover of Rangers seemingly close, all eyes are now focused on who they will appoint this summer.
It looks incredibly unlikely that Barry Ferguson will leave the Gers after a sub-par recent run of form.
A recent favourite who has emerged is for the Rangers job is Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti, who looks likely to leave the Spanish giants this summer.
However, Simon Jordan remains unsure about the potential appointment and has instead compared him to Wayne Rooney.

Simon Jordan compares Ancelotti to Rooney in brutal rant
Ancelotti is seen as a highly promising coach. Since 2016, he has followed his father, Carlo Ancelotti, around Europe, winning numerous trophies.
Now, with the duo looking set to leave Real Madrid this summer, it has opened an opportunity for Rangers to make a move for the Italian.
Despite never being a manager before, the assistant coach is not short on offers, with Italian side Como also interested in Ancelotti.
However, Jordan believes that Rangers should avoid the 35-year-old this summer, as he likened his potential appointment to that of Wayne Rooney’s at Plymouth Argyle.
In one section of his talkSPORT (14 May) rant, he said: “We had this ridiculous conversation last year, and people will say I’m bringing it up to make a point – I am.
“If you have got an owner of a football club, sitting on the pinnacle, coming on here telling us the Rooney appointment was based on none of his credentials, and what he did in the past was no interest to them, I don’t understand that.
“Ultimately, with a first-time appointment, you are taking a risk, but this is Rangers.
“All the challenges that Rangers have had have brought them to this point where the ball is in disarray at times, the ownership is changing, the expectations of the club are rising.
“Surely you have got to parachute somebody in who is going to say ‘you see that fellow over there, in the other dugout, I can deal with him as long as you give me some resources and let me match him close to pound for pound, I can get you where you need to be’.
“Can they really unequivocally say somebody who has been in his father’s shadow, got appointments on the back of his father’s credentials, has the chops to manage the football club at Rangers? I’d have to debate that.”
Rooney and Ancelotti comparison is absurd
While Jordan is right that Rangers would be appointing a manager with no experience in the role if they got Ancelotti, the comparison to Rooney is baffling.
The former England international has failed in multiple jobs and is unlikely to get another anytime soon.
In comparison, Ancelotti has been part of some of the most successful sides in the world and helped Real Madrid win the Champions League.
The two coaches are simply not comparable, and a serial winner like Carlo Ancelotti would not have Davide as his assistant if he did not think he was a good.
While there would no doubt be reservations over his appointment, he is likely be far more successful than Rooney ever was.
