Rangers news: Kevin Boma transfer update emerges after Nils Koppen development

Nils Koppen has set his sights on bringing Kevin Boma to Rangers this summer transfer window.

Rangers are poised for a big summer of change, with a US consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe on the cusp of a takeover.

The Light Blues are also in the process of hiring a permanent replacement for Philippe Clement, having identified Davide Ancelotti as a top candidate.

Meanwhile, the Premiership heavyweights are also expected to make major additions to their squad, as they look to compete with Celtic again.

Estoril yet to receive offer from Rangers for Boma

Along with new sporting director Kevin Thelwell, Koppen is prioritising the signing of young prospects with high resale value.

Boma has therefore emerged as an option to strengthen Rangers’ backline ahead of next season, with Estoril valuing him at around £6.8m.

However, the Portuguese club are yet to receive an offer from Rangers or any other club for the centre-back, according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese sports newspaper reported via their website on Wednesday (14 May) that Estoril boss Ian Cathro hopes to keep his key players this summer.

However, Boma could be on his way out, having emerged as one of Estoril’s standout performers this season.

The 22-year-old’s performances have certainly not gone unnoticed, with Rangers among the clubs interested in acquiring his services.

Boma would be hit at Ibrox

While most of Rangers’ plans moving forward depend on the takeover and the incoming manager, it is evident that they need a new centre-back.

Leon Balogun is due to head out of Ibrox when his contract expires at the end of the season, while Robin Propper has left much to be desired since arriving from the Netherlands.

Therefore, Boma could be a great addition for the Light Blues.

The Togo international has earned significant first-team experience in the Primeira Liga this season and could slot into the right side of the Gers’ defence with ease.
