James Tavernier slammed after what he did in Rangers v Dundee United – ‘Nightmare’
James Tavernier had an evening to forget, even though Rangers managed to pick up the three points against Dundee United.
Cyriel Dessers bagged a brace for the hosts while Nico Raskin added a third to ensure Gers won 3-1 on Wednesday night.
They were trailing for five minutes, but equalised within minutes and did not look back for the entire game.

David Edgar calls Tavernier a ‘nightmare’
David Edgar watched on in the first half and there was a moment towards the end of it where the right-back made multiple errors within a short period of time.
This certainly did not sit well with the majority of the Ibrox faithful, as well as the Heart and Hand podcast host.
He took to X to write: “Tavernier is having an absolute nightmare.”
Statistic | James Tavernier |
---|---|
Dribbled Past | 2 |
Ground Duels (Won) | 7 (2) |
Aerial Duels (Won) | 4 (1) |
Possession Lost | 23 |
Crosses (Accurate) | 11 (2) |
Long Balls (Accurate) | 4 (2) |
Dribble Attempts (Successful) | 2 (0) |
He lost the majority of his aerial and ground duels and failed to complete a single dribble all game.
Until the 80th minute, he had not even registered an accurate cross, with all nine not finding their desired target.
Despite this, Barry Ferguson decided to keep him for the entirety of the game and brought of players who were performing better.
Rangers have to get rid of Tavernier
Tavernier’s performance against Dundee United underscores why Gers must sell him and make this his final game at Ibrox.
The 33-year-old captain was labelled a “nightmare” by Edgar, a sentiment echoed by fans, as he struggled immensely.
His crossing was abysmal, with just 2 of 11 accurate, and he failed both dribble attempts.
Ferguson’s decision to keep him on while subbing better performers further frustrated fans.
With his time clearly past, as noted in prior speculation about a summer exit, Rangers must move on to rebuild effectively.
Every season, he seems to be having the same problems, but Gers still continue to keep him at the club, which is undoubtedly baffling.
