Barry Ferguson is finished at Rangers – Three things learned in win v Dundee United

Rangers won back-to-back matches at the Ibrox as they cruised past Dundee United with a 3-1 victory.

After a slow start at Ibrox, the visitors took a surprise lead thanks to some shocking defending which allowed Samuel Cleall-Harding to bundle the ball home.

However, Rangers replied instantly thanks to a Cyriel Dessers header to ensure the teams were level at the break.

Barry Ferguson’s side then won a penalty thanks to VAR which was coolly dispatched by Dessers for his second of the night.

Nicolas Raskin then quickly finished off the tie to make it 3-1 as the Belgian found the net after a devastating counter attack.

Now, Ibrox News examine three things we learnt from the fixture.

Cyriel Dessers has proved himself at Rangers

Throughout the season, there have been calls for Dessers to be sold in the summer.

The 30-year-old is not getting any younger, and there is a belief that the Glaswegians can upgrade on their main attacking threat.

Last weekend, Dessers was slammed for his first-half miss against Aberdeen, and it looked as if the gig might be up.

Yet, the striker’s two goals against Dundee United now means that he has scored five times in his last four outings in the Scottish Premiership.

With 23 goals so far this campaign in all competitions, the Belgian has proved that he should stay at Ibrox beyond the current season.

Barry Ferguson is done as Rangers manager

Who will be Rangers’ next manager next season has been debated for months now. However, it cannot be Ibrox hero Ferguson.

Rangers have been stumbling over the finish line in the Scottish Premiership, with few performances being inspiring for the Ibrox crowd.

The 4-0 victory over Aberdeen last week was impressive, but has only papered over the cracks.

Against Dundee United, the display wasn’t great, and it took 73 minutes for the hosts to actually take the lead.

Ferguson was unlikely to stay at Rangers before the match, and surely this hasn’t changed after the result.

Rangers must do everything to hold onto Raskin this summer

Raskin is another player whose future has been debated in recent weeks.

The midfielder has produced some excellent performances in recent weeks and scored a great goal past Dundee United.

This was the perfect follow up from the weekend when Raskin earned man of the match for his display against Aberdeen.

Now, with the 49ers closing in on their takeover at Rangers, they must try to keep hold of the midfielder as it would show some real ambition.
