Rangers set to make ‘Risky’ new manager appointment after Ancelotti latest
Rangers are already making moves to challenge Celtic next season with the possible appointment of Davide Ancelotti.
Interim manager Barry Ferguson’s chapter at the Scottish club is coming to an end as Rangers look to be going down a different route for their next permanent appointment.
Ancelotti, 35, son of Carlo, has emerged as the frontrunner for the Rangers job, with the next hours decisive.
While working under one of the best in the game at Real Madrid, Ancelotti’s limited managerial experience continues to cast doubts around his hire.

Ancelotti appointment “risky” but “exciting”
The Italian coach is hot property this summer with Como, RB Leipzig and Sevilla all gunning for his signature, however, Rangers are leading the pack with Ancelotti seduced by the prospect of potential Champions League football.
Despite stints at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and of course, Madrid, there are still concerns over whether he is the right man to lead Rangers next season.
Years | Club |
2016-17 | Bayern Munich |
2018-19 | Napoli |
2019-21 | Everton |
2021-25 | Real Madrid |
Yet, the possibility of a young manager with new ideas and tactics is beginning to take hold.
Derek Clark, writer at the Rangers Review, wrote on X: “I like the idea of Davide Ancelotti.
“A risky but potentially exciting appointment.”
Ancelotti would make a good hire
The opinion that the most successful Rangers managers have had little experience before their appointment does have some truth to it.
Steven Gerrard, who led the Gers to a Scottish Premiership title in 2021, is a prime example, having only coached at youth, under-18 and under-19 levels for Liverpool before his hire.
The former Rangers coach was also projected to make a possible return to Ibrox, but Ancelotti now seems the likelier option.
In comparison to Gerrard, Ancelotti has several years of experience and has helped his teams achieve silverware at the highest level.
Working at huge clubs such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich could open new doors for Rangers, too, who could lean on their potential new manager for signings this summer.
Ancelotti is a serial winner, and with a Rangers team looking to compete for the Premiership next season, there is no better option on the market.
