Duncan Ferguson ‘to be Rangers number two’ after Davide Ancelotti news

Duncan Ferguson could potentially return to Ibrox as Real Madrid’s assistant manager Davide Ancelotti is being linked with Rangers.

Barry Ferguson’s interim stint at the Glaswegian outfit is set to conclude at the end of the season, and a new permanent manager must be appointed.

Davide is being considered at Ibrox, as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises look to complete their takeover soon.

Ferguson worked with Carlo Ancelotti and his son at Everton, and the Real Madrid coach may soon reunite with the former striker.

Ancelotti to reunite with Ferguson at Rangers if appointed manager

Ferguson may be part of the setup at Ibrox if Davide is appointed the next manager, Mark Guidi says.

The Scottish journalist suggested the ex-Gers striker could potentially be part of the backroom staff at the Glaswegian outfit under the Italian coach.

With the former Scotland international’s connection to the Light Blues, Guidi believes his return to the dugout may be on the cards.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (12 May), the journalist said: “If it is Davide… I just wonder if Ferguson will be part of the backroom staff. They were together at Everton. Carlo loved [Ferguson].

“Whether he’d want to be an assistant manager, I don’t know. I just wonder the Rangers connection, if it is Davide, I reckon that Ferguson would be part of it.”

49ers must make right call with next manager at Ibrox

Ferguson has expressed his desire to stay at Ibrox, but it doesn’t look like the ex-midfielder will remain at the Gers beyond this season.

The interim manager’s domestic record hasn’t been the best, with the Light Blues getting their first home win under him against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (11 May).

It makes sense for Cavenagh and the 49ers to look for someone else as they focus on buying controlling shares at the Bears.

Rangers must be prudent with who they hire next, as they should be able to compete with Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.

While quality recruitment in the upcoming transfer window will arguably play a significant role in the Gers’ success next season, the next head coach needs to be able to bring the best out of the squad.

Philippe Clement failed to get consistent results at the Light Blues and was eventually sacked.

If the Glaswegian outfit start the upcoming campaign poorly, the Ibrox faithful’s mood will likely turn sour.

Ferguson and Davide enjoyed a relatively decent spell at Everton, but it remains to be seen whether they will reunite at the Bears.
