Rangers called out over new Ibrox announcement that was clearly wrong

Rangers picked up all three points on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a dominant 4-0 thrashing of Aberdeen at Ibrox.

Although it was goalless at half-time, the Gers came out fighting in the second half and goals from Vaclav Cerny, Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane and Jefte secured all three points.

However, despite the thrashing, it was an apathetic afternoon at Ibrox, with many supporters clearly ready for the campaign to end, with nothing left to play for.

What’s more, with an impending takeover by the 49ers Enterprises, it’s no surprise that supporters are looking ahead to the future.

Rangers accused of inflating in Ibrox announcement

Supporters at Ibrox have been fed up for some time now, after a disastrous campaign.

The interim arrival of Barry Ferguson seemingly lifted morale, especially as the Gers went on a Europa League run to the quarter-finals.

However, with the European run over and domestic form still inconsistent, there is plenty of work to be done.

Rangers have not done as well as hoped this season.

Tensions have been close to boiling over of late, with the Light Blues clashing with Union Bears after a controversial tifo sparked a debate between the two parties.

Rangers have now come under criticism from the press, after they reported a crowd of 50,343 at Ibrox for the clash against Aberdeen.

However, Calum Crowe rubbished this as he wrote in the Scottish Daily Mail (12 May, page 58): “The official attendance was given as 50,343, but that was only an attempt to save face.

“Truthfully, you could knock a good 15,000 off that.”

Rangers holding out for 49ers takeover

Rangers currently find themselves in some form of no man’s land.

As it stands, the 49ers takeover at Ibrox looks likely to be completed in June, meaning there is still some way to go under the current ownership.

However, as the season begins to draw to a close, there are big decisions to be made and Ferguson has been vocal about the awkward place his side finds themselves in as a consequence.

Once the takeover goes through, the Light Blues can be prepared to look ahead to more investment in the coming seasons, as they look to compete at the top of the Scottish Premiership with Celtic once more.

The hope in Glasgow is that once the new era is underway, the Bears will have no reason to inflate their attendances and instead, they will simply have supporters on side once more.
