Nils Koppen priority emerges as Rangers ready Kevin Boma transfer

Nils Koppen is already planning for next season at Rangers, with Estoril defender Kevin Boma on the transfer radar at Ibrox.

Barry Ferguson won his first home game against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (11 May), with the Gers finally keeping a domestic clean sheet after 10 matches.

The Gers have been poor defensively in the Scottish Premiership this season, and that hasn’t changed under the interim manager.

With the likes of Robin Propper struggling at Ibrox, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Light Blues sign a new centre-back in the upcoming transfer window.

Kevin Thelwell and Koppen prioritise youth as Boma transfer wanted

Kevin Thelwell and Koppen are prioritising young prospects with high resale value amid interest in Boma, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet reports (12 May) that the Gers admire the 22-year-old defender, who Estoril value at around £6.8m.

It’s been claimed that Boma is the type of player the Light Blues aim to recruit under the prospective new owners at Ibrox, and potential sales are expected to finance the transfer.

The centre-back’s pace, aerial strength and aggressive defending make him an ideal fit for the Scottish Premiership.

The Togo international wants to compete in European competitions next season, something the Glaswegian outfit could provide.

Rangers sanction centre-back transfer next summer

Leon Balogun’s contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season, and whether the Nigerian defender will be offered a new contract remains to be seen.

The Gers have struggled defensively this season, with several fitness issues in the backline.

Rangers haven’t been able to rely on John Souttar due to his consistent injuries and erratic performances.

The Scotland international’s contract at the Glaswegian outfit will enter its final year soon, leaving them with a massive transfer decision to make.

Dujon Sterling has also been on the sidelines for most of the campaign, making defensive additions a seeming priority for the Light Blues.

Rafael Fernandes signed for the Bears on loan from LOSC Lille in the winter transfer window, but the Portuguese has hardly been seen this season, and fans will hope the recruitment team aren’t making a similar mistake with Boma.
