Fabrizio Romano shares major Gerrard twist in Rangers next manager update
Steven Gerrard is still widely held in high regard after guiding Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.
Barry Ferguson is still in charge at Ibrox and earned his first home victory as Gers interim boss via a 4-0 victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox on Sunday.
Goals arrived from Vaclav Cerny, Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane and Jefte as the Bears turned on the style in the second half to dispose of Jimmy Thelin’s men.
But while Ferguson enjoyed a heavy win on Sunday, Rangers are set to look elsewhere when appointing the Ibrox side’s next permanent boss.

Rangers consider re-appointing Gerrard
Chris Jack previously suggested that the Light Blues were not considering a move to bring Gerrard back to Ibrox.
However, Fabrizio Romano has informed GiveMeSport [12 May] that the Liverpudlian is still being considered by Rangers in the hunt for their next boss.
“He is one of several names in the frame, the club is assessing options at this stage,” Romano said.
Since leaving Glasgow in 2021, Gerrard has overseen largely unsuccessful stints in charge of Aston Villa and Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq. He is currently out of work.

Rangers must get next managerial appointment spot on
After steering the Bears to a 4-0 triumph over Aberdeen, Ferguson will be confident that he can guide Rangers to victories over Dundee United and Hibernian in the last two games of the Scottish Premiership season.
Opponent | Result |
St Mirren (A) | 2-2 D |
Celtic (H) | 1-1 D |
Aberdeen (H) | 4-0 W |
But ending the season on a three-game winning streak would merely symbolise a strong end to an otherwise disappointing campaign in which the men from Ibrox have failed to lift silverware.
The Light Blues faithful will be desperate to see the Gers close the gap on bitter rivals Celtic next term, so the right managerial appointment must be made at Ibrox this summer.
Rangers could make their next appointment before the 49ers have completed their takeover, while Gerrard is one of many names currently in the frame.
The Ibrox giants are also considering a swoop for Real Madrid assistant manager Davide Ancelotti, son of Carlo Ancelotti, and have set their sights on former Leipzig boss Marco Rose.
