Davide Ancelotti appointment ‘step closer at Rangers’ after official announcement
Rangers may be on the verge of naming Davide Ancelotti as their new head coach.
The Gers have been on the lookout for a new manager since the departure of Philippe Clement in February after a dreadful run.
This resulted in Barry Ferguson being named as an interim, but it looks highly unlikely that he will take up the role on a permanent basis moving forward.
As a result, a new face is needed in the Ibrox dugout, with Ancelotti potentially taking a step closer to a move to Govan, ready for the new season.

Ancelotti could become next Rangers manager
There is a wide search going on for a new head coach in G51 right now, with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl linked with taking over already.
The latest name to be rumoured to take over is Ancelotti after a four-year stint as assistant manager of Real Madrid.
Years | Club |
2016-17 | Bayern Munich |
2018-19 | Napoli |
2019-21 | Everton |
2021-25 | Real Madrid |
This came after spells with Everton, Napoli and Bayern Munich, with his work at the Allianz being singled out for particular praise by former midfielder Javi Martinez.
The Spaniard described the 35-year-old coach as “incredible, prepared, serious, a great person, like his father” [BBC Sport], which can only be seen as a positive for the Light Blues.
If this glowing reference wasn’t enough for the Govan club to take action, a move for Ancelotti could be accelerated after his father’s departure at Real Madrid.
The Italian head coach has been confirmed by Brazil (12 May) to become their manager ahead of the 2026 World Cup in America.
The Selecao are yet to confirm whether his son will join him in South America, which could give Rangers the perfect opportunity to step in.
Ancelotti exit to spark Rangers into life
Given how long the Light Blues have been searching for a new manager, they need to take opportunities where they come.
It is unclear what sort of head coach the 49ers and Andrew Cavenagh will want when they eventually come in, whether that be experienced or youthful exuberance.
If they opt to go for the latter, there may not be a better option out there than Ancelotti after years of experience at the very top level.
This could serve the Gers well moving into the new Scottish Premiership season as they look to close the gap to Celtic next campaign.
