Barry Ferguson talks with Kevin Thelwell ‘go really well’ after Rangers development

Barry Ferguson has been confident at Rangers after potentially fruitful conversations with Kevin Thelwell at Ibrox.

The Gers icon was appointed interim manager after Philippe Clement was sacked, but the Light Blues have continued to struggle.

The Glaswegian outfit got their first home win under the former Scotland international as they beat Aberdeen 4-0 in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (11 May).

Thelwell spoke with Ferguson recently, and it looks like the ex-midfielder has seen a change of air around his situation at the Bears.

Thelwell talks have led to change in mood around Ferguson at Rangers

Ferguson looks bullish since having his conversation with Thelwell, Keith Jackson says.

The Daily Record journalist feels that talks with the Gers’ incoming sporting director may have gone really well, as the former Scotland international’s attitude has changed since then.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the ex-midfielder wanting to continue at Ibrox beyond this season, but what happens after the potential takeover remains to be seen.

Speaking on Hotline Live (11 May), Jackson said: “I think there’s been a shift in the mood around Ferguson since he’s had his face-to-face, really lengthy, full and frank discussion with Thelwell. I think that conversation probably went really well because he’s been a bit more bullish since then.”

Ferguson exit inevitable after 49ers Enterprises takeover at Ibrox

Ferguson’s record at Ibrox has been underwhelming since taking charge, and 49ers Enterprises may have other candidates in mind to lead the Gers next season.

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers have tasked Gretar Steinsson with finding a new head coach for the Glaswegian outfit.

It seems inevitable that the interim manager will exit at the end of the campaign, as the US consortium will potentially have different plans.

Thelwell’s arrival at Rangers will be a big boost as they’ve been without a sporting director for several months.

The Englishman’s recruitment record at Everton has been impressive, and fans will expect things to drastically change at Ibrox in the upcoming transfer window.

While it’s unknown whether Thelwell and Ferguson spoke about the managerial situation at the Glaswegian outfit, it’s hard to imagine they’ll stick with the ex-midfielder.

The former Scotland international has changed the mood among the supporters since replacing Clement, but even they realise he’s not the right person for the job.

With managers playing a key role in suggesting recruitments, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think the incoming sporting director may have a say in who will lead the Gers next season.
