Derek McInnes details Rangers worry despite ‘financially great’ news at Ibrox
Rangers have endured a miserable domestic season, and will simply have to improve on all fronts next year.
Barry Ferguson could not stop the rot as he joined as interim manager to replace Philippe Clement, but there was hope of some salvation for a while in Europe.
Rangers knocked out Fenerbahce to reach the Europa League quarter-finals, but ultimately fell short against Athletic Bilbao.
While the Europa League run was enjoyable, Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes has now claimed that Rangers have a bigger priority next season.

McInnes claims Rangers need to focus on domestic form
McInnes has now claimed that Rangers’ biggest priority next season has to be winning a domestic trophy, rather than falling short to Celtic again.
“I think that’s where they need concentrate on and try and recruit to win trophies domestically,” McIness stated on Sky Sports Football (11 May, 11.10 am).
Rangers – 2024-25 | Progress |
Scottish Premiership | 2nd |
Scottish Cup | Fifth round |
League Cup | Runners-up |
Europa League | Quarter-finals |
“Those nights with the European runs are financially great, it keeps exposure, it keeps the club growing, but I actually do think that winning trophies domestically is where they need to focus, to get back to challenge Celtic for the title.”
Rangers have won just one domestic trophy since 2022, winning the Scottish League Cup last season, and improving this has to be their priority.

Rangers need to end Celtic dominance in Scotland
Celtic are currently on for a treble in Scotland, and have just won their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
Rangers last won the title in 2021, and last won the Scottish Cup in 2022, and this is simply not good enough.
They did reach the Europa League final in 2022, and the quarter-finals this season, but without winning the trophy, the trade-off for poor domestic form is not worth it.
Rangers need to win a domestic trophy next season, and bridge the huge gap between themselves and Celtic right now.
49ers Enterprises are expected to complete a takeover of the club, and their focus has to be on building a squad which can compete at the top end of the Scottish Premiership.
