Cavenagh keeps Dave King in the dark as Rangers takeover secret emerges

Rangers are progressing towards a takeover with former chairman Dave King left out of any potential changes at Ibrox.

The Gers shareholder would likely want to be in the know of any news emerging ahead of the 49ers introduction in Govan.

The US consortium appears to be edging closer to completing a deal for the Light Blues, which could see alterations be made in the coming weeks and months.

The NFL giants are set to be joined in their investment by Andrew Cavenagh, who isn’t one for sharing insider details with King.

It feels as if change is on the way with the health insurance tycoon being spotted at a number of Ibrox clashes in recent weeks.

The businessman, alongside the 49ers, will be hopeful of gaining a controlling 51 per cent share of the Light Blues ahead of the new campaign.

This will likely see Cavenagh come in alongside King, who is the largest single shareholder in the Govan club right now with a 12.96 per cent stake.

As a result, fans may believe that the 69-year-old is aware of any changes that the US group would want to make.

Despite this, Hugh Keevins has shared, via the Daily Record (11 May), that King has “no idea” who the 49ers want the new Rangers manager to be.

The journalist believes that Cavenagh wants to keep it that way and leave the former chairman in the dark in the midst of their takeover.

This could be the case of “everyone else” at Ibrox, with Keevins saying the potential investor showed “body language was not that of a man who liked being told what to do” in his recent trip to G51.

As frustrating as this development may be for the current shareholders in Govan, this news may be music to the ears of Gers fans.

For too long, the Gers have been a circus and a sort of laughing stock for their recent failings in the Scottish Premiership,

Supporters will now be hopeful of major change both in the boardroom with Cavenagh and in the dugout with whoever he looks to bring in.

Steven Gerrard has been linked with a return after a highly positive spell until his failed move to Premier League side Aston Villa.

The Light Blues could also make a move for Danny Rohl, who would likely prove to be a well-received option for the Gers.
