Rangers handed ‘Disappointing’ injury blow as another player ruled out for season

Barry Ferguson has issued an injury update on Ianis Hagi ahead of the Rangers clash against Aberdeen at Ibrox on Sunday.

Gers face a formidable challenge against the Dons, with their six-game winless streak and Ferguson’s failure to secure a home victory amplifying the pressure.

Despite securing second place in the Scottish Premiership, the Ibrox outfit’s inconsistent season, marked by a poor start under Philippe Clement and recent draws and losses, including a Europa League exit, has dented morale.

Hagi set to be ruled out for the season

Ferguson confirmed that Hagi has suffered an injury that will end his campaign prematurely.

The Romanian was a doubt to return again this season, but it has now been confirmed by the interim boss.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo has been lauded for his impact post his long-term injury and his return has been played up.

The youngster did feature for the B Team and appears to be on the right track.

Robin Propper has also returned to training but it remains to be seen if he’s ready for the game on Sunday.

However, the big news is that, like Dujon Sterling, Hagi is also out for the season.

Ferguson said: “Ianis Hagi will miss the rest of the season which is disappointing for him. Neraysho Kasanwirjo has done well to come back and has had a full week of training. Robin Pröpper trained today so there are a few coming back.”

Rangers need to secure the three points against Aberdeen

Injuries to key players further weaken their squad, while Aberdeen, despite their own inconsistencies, remain a threat.

The Dons’ strong start under Jimmy Thelin, recent Scottish FA Cup semi-final win and motivation to secure European qualification make them dangerous, especially as they’ve historically struggled at Ibrox but are desperate for points.

A victory is crucial for Rangers to halt their slide, boost fan confidence and strengthen Ferguson’s case for the permanent role.

With only three games left, a win would provide momentum, restore pride and signal intent for next season under potential new ownership, ensuring they end a turbulent campaign on a positive note and maintain their edge over rivals like Aberdeen.
