Leon Balogun not 100% as Rangers worry detailed by doctor v Aberdeen
Rangers defender Leon Balogun has still not fully recovered from his recent facial injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that a blow like that could take weeks to recover from, even though he returned wearing a face mask.
After being out for a couple of weeks, the 36-year-old returned to play the full 90 minutes against Celtic.

Balogun expected to be ready to play the full game against Aberdeen
The 36-year-old was arguably the best defender on the pitch in the Old Firm derby and Barry Ferguson will want to start him if he is fit.
He did not suffer any setback in that game and did not appear to carry any aftereffects post his recent spell on the sidelines.
Competition (2024/25) | Appearances |
Scottish Premiership | 17 |
Europa League | 7 |
Premier Sports Cup | 2 |
Champions League Qualifying | 1 |
Thus, for the game against Aberdeen at Ibrox on Sunday, he is likely to be ready to start and play the full game.
Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, exclusively told Ibrox News: “He had a fractured cheekbone and the best way to deal with it was to allow appropriate healing time and then return with a face mask until you’re fully clear of reinjury risk and over any mental hurdles.
“He still is not at 100 per cent as this can take weeks to recover but it should not impact him from starting games and even playing the full 90 minutes.“

Rangers need to give Balogun a new contract this summer
Rangers must offer the 36-year-old another one-year contract due to his invaluable experience, leadership, nd consistent performances despite his age.
Balogun, a fan favourite, has been a reliable centre-back, stepping up during injury crises and delivering composed displays in high-stakes matches, including European ties.
His professionalism and mentorship are vital for a squad blending youth and veterans, especially with financial constraints limiting new signings.
While age raises concerns about pace and durability, as explained above by Dr Brar, Balogun’s game intelligence compensates and his low-cost deal aligns with Rangers’ budget.
Retaining him ensures defensive stability and continuity as they navigate a critical season under new ownership
