Keith Jackson ‘staggered’ by Danny Rohl development at Rangers

Danny Rohl could potentially be the next Rangers manager after Barry Ferguson departs Ibrox in the coming weeks.

The Gers icon was appointed on an interim basis after Philippe Clement’s dismissal, and it will be interesting to see who will take charge of the Glaswegian outfit next season.

Rohl has been linked with a move to Ibrox as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises prepare to complete their takeover.

The US consortium have tasked Greatar Steinsson with searching for a new head coach at the Light Blues, but some haven’t taken the Sheffield Wednesday boss’ potential arrival well.

Rohl appointment at Rangers would be staggering

Rohl’s appointment as the Gers’ next manager would be staggering, Keith Jackson says.

The Record journalist has slammed suggestions of the 36-year-old head coach coming to Ibrox due to his limited experience in management.

Jackson doesn’t believe the German national will take charge of the Light Blues ahead of next season, but if he does come, it would be surprising to see the Wednesday boss be successful.

Speaking on Hotline Live (8 May), the journalist said: “A 36-year-old with really limited experience, especially being a manager and no experience of understanding what Glasgow is like, what the club’s like or what the environment is like.

“It may happen, and if it does, then you can all come back and have a laugh at us. But I would be staggered if this happened. And I would be even more incredulous if someone like that would be able to come in and make a success of the task that’s facing Rangers this summer.”

Brendan Rodgers competitor needed at Ibrox

Cavenagh and the 49ers need to appoint the right person to lead the Gers ahead of the upcoming campaign and knock Celtic off their perch.

Ferguson beat Brendan Rodgers earlier this season, and the Light Blues managed to draw against the Hoops in the latest Old Firm Derby, but that may not be enough to keep the former Scotland international in the job.

The ex-midfielder’s domestic record as interim manager is underwhelming, with the Bears unable to get a home win.

Rangers need to stop Celtic’s domination in the Scottish Premiership, with the Bhoys winning their fourth consecutive league title.

Rodgers’ team have been dominant in recent campaigns, and their Old Firm rivals have hardly had an answer for them.

Philippe Clement’s record against the Hoops was abysmal, yet he was allowed to continue as head coach for a relatively long period.

Steven Gerrard has been linked with a return to Ibrox, and the Liverpool legend was the last manager to win the Scottish Premiership with the Gers.

Whether Rohl becomes the top candidate at the Light Blues remains to be seen.
