Roy Keane takes brutal swipe at Rangers situation – ‘My goodness’

Roy Keane hasn’t held back in a bizarre and impassioned rant about Rangers.

The Gers have had an increasingly difficult season at Ibrox after struggling to find a positive performance level in the Scottish Premiership.

This has seen both Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson fail to keep up with Old Firm rivals Celtic, who have easily secured another league title.

This has been picked up on by former Hoops midfielder Keane in a strange swipe at the Govan club, which has come out of nowhere.

Keane slams Rangers in Manchester United rant

As bad as the campaign has been on the domestic front for the Light Blues, the performances in the Europa League have still managed to catch the eye.

This saw Ferguson’s men get the better of Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce on penalties at Ibrox after a 3-3 aggregate draw across two legs.

There is no doubt the Gers deserved their luck against the Turkish giants as they set themselves up with a huge tie against Athletic Bilbao.

Despite a penalty save from Liam Kelly in the first leg, the LaLiga side ultimately went on to secure a place in the semi-final with a 2-0 win.

This set up a clash against Manchester United for the Spaniards, who got smashed 3-0 in the first leg at San Mames Barria.

Speaking on Stick to Football (8 May), Jill Scott suggested that Athletic Club could get back into the tie at Old Trafford, leaving Keane raging and sparking him into making a Rangers comparison.

He said: “Bilbao just about beat Rangers, Rangers are about 300 points behind Celtic. My goodness.”

Keane in bizarre Rangers swipe

It is strange to discredit the qualities of the Basque club because they “just about beat Rangers” in a close-fought quarter-final tie.

This takes any plaudits away from the Gers, who generally were superb in the Europa League throughout the season.

Huge wins against the likes of Nice were backed up with a draw against Tottenham, while the Red Devils only narrowly secured victory at Old Trafford.

As a result, suggesting that Bilbao are any worse because of only beating the Light Blues by two seems disrespectful to all parties.

It will now be interesting to see how the Spanish side do away at Manchester United and whether they can prove Keane wrong.
