Rangers news: Huge £3.8m development emerges in Danny Rohl chase

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has been linked with the Rangers job as the 49ers are eyeing a change at the helm.

It’s understood that the German is set to leave Hillsborough with Wednesday’s season having ended.

Al-Ahly back out of negotiations to hire Rohl

Al-Ahly were keen on hiring Rohl, but negotiations to bring him to the Middle East collapsed, according to Zahra.

That was due to the fact that he was demanding wages of £3.8million a year – something that Al-Ahly were not willing to pay.

Daily Record reported on 8 May that his mega pay packet could prove to be an issue for the 49ers once they complete the takeover.

That’s because they have to be careful with their spending due to PSR restrictions.

It’s not going to be a blank chequebook from the American owners, so a rebuild is not expected to be completed instantly.

Rangers may have to pay slightly higher wages to hire quality

If Gers aim to appoint a high-calibre manager like Rohl, they must be prepared to offer competitive wages to secure top talent.

His rising stock, evidenced by links to Rangers and Southampton, suggests a premium salary would be necessary to lure him from Hillsborough, especially given potential compensation costs.

Similarly, Kjetil Knutsen, the Bodo/Glimt manager, is another compelling option.

Knutsen has led Bodo to four Norwegian titles and a historic UEFA Europa League semi-final, showcasing his attacking 4-3-3 system and ability to overachieve on a modest budget.

His European success and interest from other clubs in Europe indicate Rangers would need to invest significantly in wages to attract him, ensuring they match the ambition of these proven, innovative coaches.

Hopefully, Kevin Thelwell has already made significant strides towards making the right appointment and fans will soon realise who the next manager is going to be once the takeover is finalised.
