Rangers could hire new manager before Ibrox takeover completion date

Rangers are anticipating plenty of change over the coming weeks as 49ers Enterprises continue to close in on their Ibrox takeover.

The Gers have three fixtures remaining under the stewardship of interim boss Barry Ferguson.

Ferguson has not steered Rangers to victory since a 4-3 win in the Scottish Premiership at Dundee on 29 March. However, the 47-year-old did lead his side to a 1-1 league draw with Celtic at Ibrox in the Old Firm Derby on Sunday (4 May).

The Gers will host Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (11 May), and Ferguson will be keen to beat Jimmy Thelin’s men in what will likely prove to be his penultimate match in the Ibrox dugout.

Rangers’ next managerial appointment does not depend on takeover date

Ferguson has led the Ibrox giants to symmetrical inconsistency in his tenure as interim boss so far, taking charge of 12 games and steering his side to four wins, four draws and four losses.

As a result, the Rangers faithful will be eager to see their club announce a new permanent boss as the Ibrox side searches for some consistency, with Joshua Barrie sharing an update.

Barrie wrote via X on Thursday (8 May), “Rangers’ appointment of a new manager is not dependent on the takeover being completed first.”

The Gers’ next boss will have a big task on his hands to close the gap to bitter rivals and Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Rangers must get their next managerial appointment spot on

Regardless of when the Ibrox club welcome their next manager, whether that’s before or after the completion of the 49ers’ prospective takeover, Rangers have to get their next appointment right.

The current campaign has fallen well below the standards the Bears set for themselves, as they have failed to clinch silverware and sit a whopping 17 points below Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Former boss Philippe Clement was sacked after a 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren back in February, but poor form at Ibrox has remained a theme under Ferguson.

The Gers were also left embarrassed after their Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Queen’s Park, while they lost December’s League Cup final to Celtic via a painful penalty shootout defeat.

Supporters will not tolerate similar events next season, so the Bears must get their next appointment right as they look to progress under the 49ers.

Those in the frame to become Rangers’ next boss include ex-Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose, while Steven Gerrard has been linked with an Ibrox return.
