Rangers backed to re-hire Steven Gerrard after what ex-Ibrox star saw
Rangers are yet to decide who will be their new manager after their takeover from 49ers Enterprises is completed.
Barry Ferguson is not expected to continue in his interim role, with the Gers continuing to disappoint despite the occasional impressive result.
Rangers are set to enter a new era with fresh ownership, directors and players, and a new head coach to link them all together, but their manager does not necessarily need to be brand new.
They could turn to a familiar face in Steven Gerrard, who was the last manager to win Rangers the Scottish Premiership title.

Ryan Jack calls for Gerrard return to Rangers
Former Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has now called for Gerrard to return to the club where he won the 2021 title as undefeated champions.
Speaking to the Daily Record (May 8), Jack, who now plays for Esenler Erokspor in Turkey, claimed that his former manager Gerrard would be the ideal candidate for the 49ers.
“He would talk to players. When he spoke to the changing room, it was with authority,” Jack stated of Gerrard.
“He had real demands in training too. Every day it was about training the way you play. It was always competitive.
Competition | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses |
Scottish Premiership | 107 | 76 | 21 | 10 |
“When you do that over days and months, eventually it comes into matches consistently. He’s a great manager and I’d be delighted to see him back.
Jack also pointed out that Gerrard could be open to a return given how much he enjoyed managing Rangers before.
“He liked Glasgow as a city as it wasn’t too far away from his home. So for him as a manager – but for most managers really – Rangers ticks a lot of boxes,” he added.
“As I said, before you take it, you have to know how big the job is, the scale of it. Also, there will be no time next season given how this campaign has gone.
“The fans will be straight on it. Steven knows the pressures so there’s no better man, really.”

Gerrard return could help Rangers enter new era
Although Rangers are aiming to begin their new era with completely fresh faces at boardroom level, Gerrard’s previous experience in the job could make him perfect for the role right now.
He would arrive as a figure who was previously popular among the Ibrox faithful, which would ease the pressure on him in the early stages of next season.
Gerrard would need little time to familiarise himself with the history and expectations of Rangers, and he will be well aware of the pressure that comes with the job.
The former Liverpool captain has not enjoyed his stints in management since, with failed spells at Aston Villa and in the Saudi Pro League, so returning to Glasgow could be his best way of reviving his coaching career.
