Sean Dyche ‘to build Rangers identity’ after green-light at Ibrox

Rangers will need a new manager once Barry Ferguson leaves, and Sean Dyche is seen as a potentially perfect candidate at Ibrox.

The former Scotland international was appointed interim head coach after Philippe Clement was sacked.

Ferguson’s continuity at Ibrox seems unlikely, with the prospective new owners looking for a new manager as they look to complete their takeover.

Gretar Steinsson is leading the search for the next permanent boss for Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises at the Light Blues, but the former Everton head coach has been suggested as a leading contender.

Rangers should appoint Dyche as next permanent manager

Dyche should be appointed by the Glaswegian outfit once Ferguson leaves, David Friel says.

The Scottish Sun journalist would be inclined to give the Englishman the opportunity to lead the Gers next season at Ibrox.

Friel is convinced the 53-year-old is the right person to build an identity at the Light Blues after his amazing work at Burnley.

Speaking on the Scottish Sun Sport (7 May), the journalist said: “I would probably be more inclined to give it to someone like Dyche. He’s obviously got links with Kevin Thelwell at Everton. I just think someone like that would come in and build something at Rangers. He’s got a good track record in England. Obviously did amazing at Burnley.

“He’d come in and get a bit of identity in the team and build something, and he’s got the personality to handle the job as well.”

“I think someone of that ilk and standing in the game is exactly what they need.”

Cavenagh and 49ers need to make decision on new manager at Ibrox soon

Dave King has admitted that the takeover at Ibrox is almost 90 per cent complete, but fans are still waiting for official confirmation.

The talks around the US consortium’s acquisition of controlling shares at the Glaswegian outfit have been going on for a few months now, and there’s some restlessness among the fanbase.

Several key decisions need to be made at the Bears before the end of the season, so the Americans need to arrive sooner rather than later.

Ferguson will likely leave Rangers soon, and there’s yet to be any confirmation of who the next manager will be.

If the ex-midfielder is not staying at the Gers beyond the current campaign, then the prospective new owners should already have had someone in mind by now.

Several names, like Marco Rose and Steven Gerrard, have been linked with the soon-to-be vacant Ibrox dugout, but with the season about to end, there must be more clarity.

The incoming head coach will undoubtedly be key in determining the Light Blues’ transfer strategy next summer, and a decision should be made as soon as possible.
