Marco Rose now ‘talk of the town’ at Rangers in new manager developments

Barry Ferguson’s hopes of securing the permanent Rangers job are slipping away as the line of possible contenders to replace him grows.

The 47-year-old replaced Philippe Clement as the interim manager at Ibrox and has made it no secret that he wants to stick around beyond this season.

However, the Scots’ domestic record has not been the greatest, failing to beat bitter rivals Celtic in a 1-1 draw on 4 May, after Cyriel Dessers initially fired them in front.

Now, with three games left to go in the Scottish Premiership, and Rangers once again miles behind their rivals, the Gers are looking for a manager to transform everything.

Chris Jack shares ‘intriguing’ manager option

The pool of possible candidates to replace Ferguson has grown in recent weeks, and as the season draws to a close, discussions are expected to accelerate.

Chris Jack has shared the latest on the manager hunt at Ibrox, saying Marco Rose became the “talk of the town” after several messages and other activity last week.

The former RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund boss does not lack in experience and his name refuses to go away as Rangers near their American takeover.

Writing for the Rangers Review, Jack said: “Marco Rose became the talk of the town after a flurry of WhatsApp messages and bets last weekend.

“The former RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund boss certainly has pedigree and would be an intriguing appointment.”

Options to replace Ferguson

With Ferguson’s departure increasingly likely, several managers have been linked to take over at Ibrox, although no clear frontrunner has emerged yet.

Steven Gerrard is one of the latest names on the list, and would return to the Gers almost four years after leaving Ibrox, if successfully appointed.

The 44-year-old led Rangers to their last Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 campaign before leaving to manage Aston Villa, but was sacked after just 11 months.

Rangers could also make a surprise appointment with Neil Warnock, who was spotted during the recent clash against Celtic.

Now, with the 49ers Enterprises group takeover looming, and Rangers looking to cause problems for Celtic in the new season, the Bears need to be ambitious when they decide to hand over the reins to another coach in the coming weeks.
