Kris Boyd hits out at Rangers ahead of summer spending spree – ‘Can’t continue’
Kris Boyd has made his feelings about Rangers and their model apparent ahead of a summer spending spree.
Although there are three more games left to play, Rangers have nothing to play for, as Celtic have already clinched the Premiership title.
Therefore, all eyes are on the impending takeover by the US consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe.
The incoming owners are putting the final touches to their proposed deal after flying in for a VIP guided tour of Ibrox from Patrick Stewart and Fraser Thornton last week.

Boyd slams Rangers recruitment model
Assessing Rangers’ situation ahead of the summer, Boyd insisted that the Light Blues are in for a big transfer window amid the takeover.
However, the Sky Sports pundit stressed the need for the Premiership heavyweights to abandon their existing recruitment model that allowed managers significant control over new signings.
He claimed that Rangers cannot afford to continue handing the ‘keys to the castle’ to the appointed manager and risk having to do everything again if that person leaves or is sacked.
Therefore, he emphasised the need for the Gers to establish an identity of their own, so that their signings do not turn out useless in the event that a manager is sacked.
Boyd also feels Rangers should avoid hiring a manager whose ideology is totally different to the existing boss.
“I don’t think Rangers can turn around and give someone the keys to the castle, as the saying goes, [and say] ‘Here’s another lump of money, go and spend that’ because, again, it’s been manager after manager after manager”, Boyd said on the Go Ballistic show (5 May).
“They have been given money, they went and spent to get players on long contracts on big money that you probably struggle to get out of the door.
“And, you’re now looking at the [fact that] Rangers are going to have to invest again in the summer.
“We can’t keep saying every single year, and we do it – every single year, all we say is Rangers need a rebuild – it can’t continue.
“For me, that’s because they have given the manager control to go and get players.
“Yes, there’ll be a process he needs to go through in terms of the recruitment, but I think the club need to have an identity as well.
“For me, if the manager does move on, whoever it is, you shouldn’t have to rip everything up and then go down a different avenue.
“It should just be somebody who is similar to the manager you have just moved on from and the club go forward.”
Ibrox on cusp of 49ers takeover
Rangers have a big decision to make regarding their managerial situation, with Barry Ferguson’s deal as the caretaker expiring at the end of the season.
Ferguson is keen to make the hot seat at Ibrox his own, but the incoming owners are tipped to look elsewhere.
Jose Mourinho is said to be open to taking the reins at Ibrox, while Steven Gerrard has been mooted as the favourite to replace Ferguson.

However, a final decision will not be made until the takeover is finalised.
Cavenagh and Marathe have found a route to acquire a 51 per cent controlling stake in Rangers, but a deal is not expected to be finalised until the end of May.
It could even drag on until mid-June.
