Leon Balogun ‘may extend’ stay in fresh Rangers twist
Leon Balogun’s contract at Rangers is set to expire at the end of the season, in his second stint at the club.
However, the Nigeria international continues to prove time and again why he is still an integral first-team player.
He played the full 90 minutes against Celtic in the 1-1 draw and was among the best players on the pitch at Ibrox.

Scott McDermott moots short-term deal for Balogun
Daily Record journalist Scott McDermott has made a case for the 36-year-old to stay at Ibrox beyond the end of the season.
In his view, he had no right to be the best defender on the pitch in the Old Firm derby and that’s testament to how good he is despite entering his late 30s.
With the takeover nigh, having the experience of Balogun inside the dressing room will certainly benefit the Gers.

McDermott wrote: “Balogun will be a free agent again this summer, with most predicting he’ll be allowed to leave Glasgow.
“But why? He had no right whatsoever to be the best centre-back on the pitch against Celtic.
“But there’s no getting away from the fact whenever Rangers need a centre-half they can rely on – they invariably call on Balogun.
“He was outstanding against Celtic and only pipped to the Ibrox man-of-the-match award by Nico Raskin.
“Even if – and it’s a big if – the new American owners come in and splash the cash on players, someone of Balogun’s experience could be vital to keep.
“If there are big changes, as expected, a new manager will want at least a few players who know the demands and expectations at Ibrox.
“Balogun ticks a lot of boxes.”

Rangers can benefit from Balogun signing a short-term deal
A short-term contract for Balogun at Rangers makes strategic sense for both the club and the incoming manager.
At 36, his experience and reliability, demonstrated in his standout performance during the 1-1 draw against Celtic, make him a valuable asset.
His ability to step up as one of the best centre-backs on the pitch proves he can still compete at a high level, offering defensive stability during a transitional period.
Off the pitch, Balogun’s familiarity with Rangers’ culture and expectations at Ibrox positions him as a stabilising influence amid potential ownership changes and squad overhaul.
A short-term deal minimises financial risk while retaining his leadership and mentorship for younger players.
For a new manager, Balogun’s presence provides continuity and a player who understands the club’s demands, allowing time to assess long-term defensive options.
His professionalism and clutch performances, like against Celtic, ensure he can contribute meaningfully without blocking the path for emerging talent, making a short-term extension a pragmatic move.
