Tom English baffled by ‘Bizzare’ Dessers situation after what he did v Celtic

Cyriel Dessers was once again on the scoresheet for Rangers as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Celtic.

Life as a Rangers player has been very strange for Dessers, who, despite scoring regularly throughout the current campaign, has come in for a lot of criticism, much of which may be misplaced.

To put it straight, it has not been a good campaign for the Light Blues, but they will take heart yet again from their display against Celtic, which ultimately earned them a point.

Dessers gave the Gers the lead at Ibrox, leading English to question what he had heard from Rangers supporters throughout the season.

Rangers told they already have a clinical striker at Ibrox

With the season set to end without silverware, it is evident that Rangers need to recruit well this summer, and that goes with the managerial situation as well.

One of the positions often identified by those of a Light Blue persuasion is the striker department, with many suggesting that Rangers need to sign one to have a chance of progressing, but English is in total disagreement with that sentiment.

Dessers has 31 goal contributions for the Light Blues this season in all competitions.

Speaking via BBC Radio Scotland (4 May, 12:56pm), English said: “Dessers, the much maligned Dessers, the player we keep hearing from Rangers people has no place at Ibrox, puts them ahead.

“25 goals this season. They kind of want a 25-goal-a-season striker. They’re desperate for one, and they actually have one, and they want to get rid of him. Um, Bizarre.”

Dessers form leaves Hamza Igamane in difficult scenario

As long as Dessers is scoring goals, he will keep his place in the Rangers 11, and rightfully so given his contributions throughout the campaign.

However, those contributions have had an impact on Hamza Igamane, who has become accustomed to a place on the bench, despite arguably being their best player for a large part of the season.

Quite frankly, Dessers’ form, if replicated throughout the team, would have seen Rangers win some form of silverware this season, showcasing that their main concerns lie elsewhere.

With a decision to be made on the future of Barry Ferguson, and plenty of recruitment needed at Ibrox, this summer will be a massive one for the Light Blues as they look to get back to a side capable of challenging Celtic for domestic success once again.
