Everton chief now set to join Wolves instead of Rangers despite Ibrox talk

Rangers’ summer is set to be one of the busiest in their recent history as the 49ers close in on their takeover of the club.

It is no doubt a summer full of optimism at the Ibrox. Rangers look almost certain to be taken over by the 49ers which would make them the richest club in Scotland.

There is now hope that the Gers can finally overtake their fierce rivals Celtic and establish themselves as the top team in the Scottish Premiership once again.

Much change is expected if the takeover is complete, with the future of Barry Ferguson still unclear.

However, the club has now hit a stumbling block in their planned restructuring, as Everton’s head of recruitment is set to reject a move to the Ibrox.

Everton’s head of recruitment, Dan Purdy set to turn down Rangers for Wolves

Everton’s head of recruitment is highly rated at the Toffees and is known for finding undervalued or unknown talents across the world.

Despite the restructuring, Everton’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, are currently performing at Merseyside, it has been reported that they did not want Purdy to leave due to his reputation.

Yet, despite his inpending departure, it has been reported by the Sun on Sunday (page 55, 4 May), that Purdy will not be joining Rangers.

It states that Purdy is likely to join Wolves this summer over the Gers and Crystal Palace.

This is despite Rangers recently appointing former Everton chief Kevin Thelwell as their new sporting director.

Purdy rejecting Rangers for Wolves is a concerning development

If Purdy does join Wolves over Rangers, questions need to be asked.

Rangers should be in a far more prosperous position compared to the Premier League outfit considering they will likely be battling relegation next season.

With the 49ers sets to take over the club in the coming weeks, it would have shown the ambition of the club if they were to attract Purdy.

However, it is highly concerning that he is now likely to reject Ibrox for a struggling Premier League side.

While the answer as to why could be an obvious one, for now, it isn’t ideal.
