Cerny ‘unhappy’ with Ferguson after what Chris Sutton saw in Rangers v Celtic
Chris Sutton made his feelings about Vaclav Cerny apparent as Rangers and Celtic played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Rangers and Celtic shared the spoils after playing out a draw in the final Old Firm derby of the season at Ibrox on 4 May, with Cyriel Dessers and Adam Idah scoring for their respective teams.
With the Hoops already being crowned champions, this was the Gers’ only chance to claim bragging rights over their arch rivals.
They were on course to do exactly that after Dessers put them in front just before half-time, but Idah’s second-half equaliser quashed such hopes.
Meanwhile, Cerny has now gone seven games without registering a goal or assist across all competitions, as his loan contract at Ibrox nears an end.

Sutton makes Cerny transfer claim on Sky Sports
Cerny’s dwindling influence prompted Barry Ferguson to replace him with Hamza Igamane in the 66th minute against Celtic, much to the player’s frustration.
The Czech international was evidently upset, as he was seen banging the bench after being substituted before being consoled by Jack Butland.
Sutton was quick to pick up on the heated moment, pointing out that the attacker was ‘clearly frustrated’ with Ferguson’s decision.
However, the pundit claimed that Rangers fans would still want to see Cerny stay at Ibrox beyond this season.
“Celtic are slaughtering them in the wide areas now”, Sutton said on Sky Sports Football (4 May, 1:29 pm).
“Cerny, clearly frustrated. A player I think most Rangers would want to keep next season.”
Minutes | Shots on target | Chances created | Accurate Passes | Successful dribbles | Duels won |
66′ | 1/2 (50%) | 1 | 12/17 (71%) | 1/2 (50%) | 3/5 (60%) |
Ian Crocker was in agreement with Sutton, admitting that Cerny looked ‘very unhappy’ after coming off.
“Safe to say he’s very unhappy”, Crocker added.
“Jack Butland trying to console him. Well, you wouldn’t want to leave a game like this, that’s for sure.”

Rangers have Cerny decision to make
Despite his recent dip in form, Cerny has been one of Rangers’ best players this season, bagging 17 goals and seven assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Therefore, it will not be a surprise if the Light Blues want to make the 27-year-old’s loan move from Wolfsburg permanent this season.
Rangers have an option to buy Cerny for a cut-price fee of £5.5million, but have to trigger the clause before the end of May.
That means the Glasgow giants are running out of time to sign the left-footer.
