Barry Ferguson screams non-stop for 15 mintues at one Rangers star v Celtic

Scott Arfield spotted Barry Ferguson cutting a frustrated figure on the touchline as Rangers took on Celtic on Sunday afternoon.

In what could potentially be his final Old Firm derby in charge, Ferguson set his team out to win in front of the Ibrox faithful.

They did get off to a good start and, after a disallowed goal, ended up taking the lead through Cyriel Dessers, but Adam Idah equalised for Celtic and the game ended 1-1.

While Rangers were the better team in the first half, Ferguson was not impressed with all of his players.

He made his frustration evident when he was seen screaming at Jefte, who played at left-back against Celtic.

Arfield, who was in the gantry, commentating for Sky Sports, saw the Gers interim boss screaming at the Brazilian for 10-15 minutes.

In his view, he thought that Ferguson felt the defender was “miles off it” and proving to be a liability for the hosts.

He said at 12:39 pm on 4 May: “I’ve watched Barry Ferguson screaming at Jefte for the last 10 or 15 minutes. He believes he is miles off it in this game.”

Rangers need to find an upgrade on Jefte

Arfield’s observation of Ferguson’s frustration with Jefte during the Old Firm derby underscores why he cannot be Rangers’ left-back next season.

The interim boss’ prolonged sideline tirade highlighted Jefte’s subpar performance in the first half against Celtic, with the interim manager deeming him a defensive liability.

This incident is not isolated, as the 21-year-old has struggled defensively throughout the season, frequently caught out of position, failing to track runners, and lacking the physicality needed for high-stakes matches.

His inconsistent performances have exposed Rangers’ backline, undermining their title aspirations.

With the 49ers Enterprises now overseeing the Gers’ direction, investing in a reliable left-back is critical to bolster defensive stability and compete with Celtic.

A new signing, ideally with proven top-flight experience, would provide the composure and tactical discipline Jefte lacks.

As Rangers aim to rebuild for a stronger 2025-26 campaign, addressing this positional weakness in the summer transfer window is imperative to restore balance and ensure competitiveness in the Scottish Premiership.
