Rangers player may not return again in 24/25 due to injury

Rangers defender Robin Propper is facing an uncertain return timeline from his recent ankle injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has detailed the best and worst-case scenarios for the Dutch defender with Barry Ferguson, he could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Despite playing the full 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw against St Mirren, he came off with a knock and it could potentially be a serious one.

Propper’s season could be over

While no return date has been provided for the 31-year-old, there is a possibility that his season might be over.

The best-case scenario for him will be that it’s a mild knock and that he could return imminently, but the worst-case scenario means a more lingering issue, keeping him out for a few weeks.

With Dujon Sterling already out for the season, Propper may also follow suit.

Robin Propper has been a regular for Rangers.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, exclusively told Ibrox News: “Best-case scenario here sounds like a mild knock, which would be a few days out, whereas worst-case would be more of a mild/moderate or lingering issue that lasts a few weeks.

Ankle and foot injuries can take time to fully reveal themselves, so this is TBD, but there is every chance that he does not recover before the end of the season.

Rangers may consider parting ways with Propper

Rangers may consider selling Propper in the summer due to his inconsistent and unreliable performances since joining from FC Twente in 2024.

The 31-year-old Dutch centre-back has struggled to adapt to the Scottish Premiership’s physicality and pace, often appearing exposed in high-pressure matches, including Old Firm derbies.

His injury proneness and lapses in concentration have further diminished his reliability, failing to justify his high wages and transfer fee.

Offloading Propper would be a wise move to free up funds and wage space for a younger, more dependable defender who aligns with the 49ers’ data-driven recruitment strategy.

This would bolster Rangers’ defence, crucial for challenging Celtic and competing in Europe, while avoiding further financial strain.
