Celtic £30m mega-deal is actually exciting news for Rangers takeover heads
Rangers are set for major changes at boardroom level this summer, and there are reasons to be optimistic.
Rangers have endured a woeful season, but 49ers Enterprises are closing in on a deal which will see them take over the club, and begin a new era at Ibrox.
Interim manager Barry Ferguson is likely to be replaced, while director Kevin Thelwell recently joined from Everton, as Rangers undergo a refresh at boardroom level.
It will take a lot of work to catch Celtic next season though, and they have now been handed an additional off-pitch boost, but it is not all doom and gloom for Rangers.

Celtic agree record sponsorship deal
Celtic’s dominance over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership this season was alarming for those at Ibrox, but it has also helped them secure a massive sponsorship deal.
The Daily Record have now reported that Celtic have agreed a mega £30m kit deal with Adidas, and have signed an astonishing 10-year extension.
Rangers – 2024-25 | Progress |
Scottish Premiership | 2nd |
Scottish Cup | Fifth round |
League Cup | Runners-up |
Europa League | Quarter-finals |
Adidas have sponsored them since 2020, but they have now renewed their contract which was set to expire in the summer, and this is the largest kit deal in the history of Scottish football.
This increased revenue may help Celtic continue their dominance, but in a time of huge off-field changes for Rangers, there may now be an opportunity.

Rangers new hierarchy will want to replicate Celtic deal
The key figures involved in the pending takeover from 49ers Enterprises will now be looking at Celtic’s Adidas deal as the benchmark for the Old Firm clubs in Scotland.
Celtic’s deal averages out at around £3m per year in a welcome boost, and Rangers have their own new kit deal this summer.
Rangers announced that they would switch kit supplier from Castore to Umbro, after their five-year deal with Castore expires in the summer.
They have a five-year agreement with Umbro, which was agreed before the takeover became a likely possibility, but the new hierarchy will already be planning for the future.
By the time Rangers agree their next kit deal, the new ownership group will aim to have brought trophies back to Ibrox, and their desired turnaround in fortunes could mean they sign an even bigger deal than Celtic have managed now.
